Movies to watch when you’re Bored

1. Trainspotting

Cast: Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremmer, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle, Kelly Macdonald

Don’t let boredom drive you to shooting up heroin. Instead you can live vicariously through this lovable rag-tag group of Scottish petty criminal drug addicts in Trainspotting. Before Obi-wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor starred in respectable roles such as the lead of this film, Mark Renton, who along with his drug buds Begbie, Sick Boy, Spud, and Tommy wreck havoc on the lives of their loved ones in the economically depressed squalor of early-90s Edinburgh. Not much happens, but it’s definitely not boring. A real pick-me-up that’ll make you feel a lot better about your own troubles (maybe).

2. Full Metal Jacket

Cast: Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Ermey, Dorian Harewood Arliss Howard Kevyn Major Howard Ed O’Ross

What’s your major malfunction? Oh yeah, that’s right, you’re just bored. Well, fire up Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece of a war movie to watch R. Lee Ermey’s uncanny Gunnery Sgt. Hartman tear his boot camp platoon a new one, and you’ll be jolted out of your stupor in no time. Classic, highly repeatable, and many times highly offensive dialogue is like anti-venom for boredom—and Full Metal Jacket’s double-sided LP approach to the Vietnam war never disappoints now matter how many times you’ve watched it.
