The city stretches along the west bank of the Volga River used to be known as Stalingrad. It is known for one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War.

8. Krasnodar
Krasnodar is the largest and the most important historical and cultural centers of Southern Russian and the Northern Caucasus region. With the population of 775,000 people, it is more ethnically diverse than Northern Russia. Georgians, Armenians, Chechens, and Ossetians have lived here along with Adyghe and many Jews. The city is very pretty with renovated tsar-era buildings and new modern structures.
