Mexico’s best hotels

5. The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun
Most lodgers who stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun are wowed by the hotel’s upscale atmosphere, especially in its common areas and 365 guest rooms and suites. Decorated in tasteful neutral tones, each accommodation comes equipped with an iPod docking station, a bathtub and separate rain shower, a flat-screen TV and a furnished balcony or terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Plus, the daily resort fee covers additional perks like in-room Wi-Fi access. The Ritz’s signature elegance is also evident in the property’s six dining establishments: Whether it’s a grand dining room or a private canopied casita on the beach, guests are in for a decadent experience. And though some guests bemoan the steep price tags that accompany their meals, many say you should splurge for at least one meal here because the food is worth it. But The Ritz really shows its worth on the pool deck, with two pools, an oceanfront whirlpool and pool valet services. More active guests can strap on some scuba gear and take to the Caribbean Sea or practice their backhand with a pro at the Tennis Center. While most enjoyed their stays, multiple previous guests complained about poor service and high fees, saying that this property doesn’t deliver a typical Ritz-Carlton experience. Nevertheless, if you choose to stay, you’ll be able to use points here as the property is part of the Marriott Bonvoy rewards program.
