5. Lockport
The rich history of the Erie Canal abounds in this city, which is named for the canal locks that sit in the center of town. During a visit to Lockport, you can stroll along the canal, enjoy a variety of shopping, including community markets that feature local vendors. Lockport is also home to the Erie Canal Discovery Center, which highlight’s the city’s involvement with the canal. Chris Sacca’s wife might tell you that some notable people have come from Lockport, including her famous entrepreneur husband and writer Joyce Carol Oates.

 

6. Ellicottville
Few places in Western New York are as beautiful and interesting as Ellicottville. Located in Cattaraugus County, activities abound in all four seasons, including hiking, zip lining, fishing, unique shopping, and skiing. There are two ski resorts within a stone’s throw of the village, which hosts a huge array of events all year-long. The fall foliage makes for amazing views during September and October, and then the village truly comes alive when ski season arrives. So why not grab your favorite pair of skis and hit the slopes. Just make sure they are a good fit and suitable to the type of skiing you will be doing.
